FAQs

We have two main areas available to camp out. By “Glamping” we mean super comfortable camping… where you are still camping, and you will likely go to bed with a certain amount of grit between your toes, but you have the creature comforts you need to sleep well and hang out regardless of the weather. Our canvas tents are protection against the elements, but let all of the soothing sounds of nature in.
Home base camp. This will be our jump-off point to all of our adventures! It is close to Abby and Alex’s house, the corrals and roundpen where we will be doing clinics or skill-building work before heading out on the ranch. Here we have campsites for sleeping tents in an area with trees. The sleeping tents we offer are ten small, personal canvas tents with floors. We have cots, pillows and sleeping pads available for each of these but ask you bring your own sleeping bag.
For communal space at this campsite we have a larger 10' x 12' wall tent that will be used as a group dining tent and gathering if the weather turns bad. We have a rustic outdoor sink with potable water good for drinking, brushing teeth, and washing dishes and hands, and an outhouse nearby.
The Prairie Camp. This camp is about a 2 hour ride east from our home base, is set on a quiet grassland where you open your tent door in the morning with a view of the crazy mountains. The setup is similar to our home base camp. It has a large cook & dining tent with a kitchen, tables and camp chairs, and we will bring backpacking tents if we pack our gear out on mules. We have an outhouse in this camp, water for washing, drinking and cooking.

We want to make this easy for you! Don’t let gear stop you - if we don’t offer it automatically, we probably have some to loan you. We will provide you with a gear list specific to your experience through a link found in your order confirmation email, but rest assured that we usually have a few extra of whatever is needed if you can't purchase necessary items (e.g. sleeping bag, headlamp etc.). We generally recommend for most trips that people bring their own sleeping bags and headlamps.

If you are into historic hotels, The Grand will be right up your alley! Just a 15 minute drive from the ranch.
The Big Timber Super 8 is a clean, reliable bet, and is located right off the highway at the first Big Timber exit.
There are also a number of Airbnbs in and nearby Big Timber

We are about a 1 hour and 15 minute drive from the Bozeman Airport, and a 1 hour 30 minute drive from the Billings airport, in normal driving conditions.

Yes! With advance warning we are happy to accommodate just about anything.

We are 6 miles north of Big Timber.
Take highway 191 north for 3 miles, and turn right on Otter Creek road. Go another 3 miles and you will see signs for Blake Ranch and Nursery on your right.
Take this driveway and follow it down and around until you come to a T with a red barn inside some corrals right in front of you. Turn left here (NOT right, or you will end up at the nursery), pass a house on your left, then two ponds, and keep coming straight until you see some corrals, some canvas tents, a hayshed and our house.

We encourage you to unplug while you are here. There is internet available at part of the Home Base Camp, and while we used to not have any cell service, we generally are covered throughout the ranch with Verizon as a carrier. We recommend setting up wifi calling before you come if you need to place a call and you don’t have verizon.

We have some interest in staying in RVs for some of our clinics or as a jump-off for our adventures. You are absolutely welcome to stay in your trailer or RV (under 22’). We are unfortunately not set up to offer any electric, septic or water hookups (yet!). Parking and turnaround is difficult with anything over 24’, particularly making a tight left turn in the driveway to get to our facilities.

Yes! Things come up, people sometimes cancel, and a spot might open up, or if there is enough interest and we have capacity we may be able offer additional experiences. Most experiences will have a waitlist button for signing up - please use this or if that button is not available yet, email us at office@wideskyadventures.com.

Before arriving, we need you to complete the following:
Our liability waiver
Pre-trip questionnaire (this questionnaire will give us basic medical information and food preferences and allow us to match you up with the best horse possible)
All of this information can be found on our Important Trip Details page. You will also receive a link to this page in your order confirmation email after making your reservation.
-
You will receive a packing list with suggested items to pack well in advance of your trip! When the list becomes available, you will be able to find it on our Important Trip Details page.

Our body-weight limit is 235 lbs per rider.
A good test to make sure you can mount and dismount safely is that participants need to be able to get on and off a bicycle without help.
We would like to accommodate everybody, and do our best to do that. We go by the rule of an equine carrying no more than 20% of its body weight (this includes a rider + saddle), and so we advise around this issue with the safety for both the horse and rider in mind.

Please read our refund policy. We strongly suggest 3rd party trip insurance that will cover you if you need to cancel (for a small fee).
